Climate change and coal abolition mega campaign concludes in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: A week-long mega campaign addressing climate change and coal abolition, organized by the National Hawker Federation, concluded on Thursday in Jamshedpur. Led by Federation Secretary Uttam Chakraborty, the campaign was conducted from September 13 to 20, with over 500 street vendors and social workers participating in areas like Mango, Sakchi, and Burmamines. The initiative aimed to eliminate coal use and promote 100% renewable energy, raising awareness of the environmental and economic impact of coal.

Participants protested with placards and banners demanding the cessation of coal usage, halting the financing of fossil fuels, and advocating for climate finance. Chakraborty highlighted how climate change directly affected street vendors, whose livelihoods depended on working outdoors round the year. Key contributors to the campaign’s success included Sunita Poyra, Nagendra Kumar, Khalid Iqbal, Dr. Tahir Hussain, Namita Patro, and Nirmala Das.
