Cleansing of Mahakaleshwar Chhat Ghat underway

Jamshedpur: The Sri-Sri Mahakaleshwar Chhat Ghat Samiti (MCGS) has started cleaning the Chhat Ghat at Jugsalai including leveling the river bank and construction work.

The most difficult part in the cleaning operation is that of the drain which pours out in to the river. The drain contains filth from Jugsalai, Bagbera, Parsudih and other localities thus making the water putrid. As a result, the riverbank is littered with garbage. Around 50 thousand Chhat devoties from Jugsalai, Bagbera, Parsudih, Naya Basti, Harharguttu and other places gather here for prayers.
MCGS members commence the cleaning operations of this ghat immediately after Durga Puja.

This year, the Chhat devotees will perform the Sandhya Argh (prayer to the setting sun) on November 13 and the prayers to the rising sun on November 14.

MCGS patron Vijay Singh and executive president Amar Singh informed that apart from cleaning and leveling the ghat’s approach path and the ghat, this year will see attractive lighting display, carpeted paths, flower decoration, distribution of milk and drinking water, medical and ambulance services, total lighting of the vast Chhat ghat area. Toilets for the devotees will also be provided along with 30 change rooms.

Samiti members were working overtime to get the ghat ready in time for the Chhat rituals to be performed by the devotees. The members included Samiti president Vir Bahadur Singh, Rakesh Singh, Narayan Singh, Satish Goyal, Vijan Singh, Santosh Dubey, Mona Gorai, Arun Mahto, Amarjit Kaur, Chandan Jayaswal, Rani Mukhi, Rohit Sharma, Vimal Sharma, Shyam Gupta, Ayush Vasisht, Sahil Sonkar, Ankit and others.
