Clean water in every village by 2017: CM

Ranchi: Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren today said that the people who do not have toilets in their houses should not be allowed to contest elections. He said the public representatives had the duty of ensuring that each house including their own has toilet.

Soren said every household should have toilet facility and the public representatives had the duty to make sure that the people get this basic amenity without fail.

He was speaking during the World Toilet Day seminar-cum-appointment letter distribution ceremony organized by the Drinking water and Sanitation Department at Hotel BNR Chanakya.

He said the government will soon remove the Value Added Tax on toilet pans for construction of toilets in rural areas. He said the toilets should also be constructed in the Indira Awas units.

The CM said hygiene was a major problem in the rural areas. The availability of clean water is also necessary. The people should be made aware about the importance of drinking water and sanitation. The public representatives have a major role to play in this, he said.

The CM called on everyone to join the mission to ensure clean drinking water supply to each and every village by the year 2017.

The CM handed appointment letters to the newly selected assistant engineers and gave a cheque of Rs 4.62 lakh to the parents of top archer Deepika Kumari. He also felicitated junior girl footballers of Ormajhi and their coach.
