CKP Division Cracks Down on Railway Offences, 540 Arrested to Ensure Safety and Smooth Operations

Chakradharpur: In a major drive to strengthen railway safety and protect vital assets, the Chakradharpur (CKP) Division has taken stringent action against offences affecting railway security during the period from July 2025 to mid-January 2026. The intensified enforcement has resulted in the registration of several cases and the arrest of a large number of offenders involved in activities that disrupt train operations and endanger passenger safety.

According to official information released on January 17, 2026, the CKP Division focused on curbing offences such as unnecessary Alarm Chain Pulling, damage to signalling systems and theft of critical railway materials. These offences not only cause inconvenience to passengers but also pose serious risks to the safety and punctuality of train services.

During the review period, as many as 540 persons were arrested under Section 141 of the Railway Act for unnecessary Alarm Chain Pulling. Such acts often lead to unscheduled stoppages of trains, delays in services, and operational challenges for railway staff, besides creating potential safety hazards.

In another significant action, 40 persons were arrested under Section 174(C) of the Railway Act for damaging railway signals. Signal damage is considered a grave offence as it can directly affect train movement, increase the risk of accidents, and disrupt the overall traffic management system on busy railway routes.

The Railway Protection Force and other concerned departments also took firm steps against theft of railway property. Under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act, 137 persons were arrested in cases related to the theft of signalling materials. Such thefts not only cause financial loss to the Railways but also compromise the reliability of signalling systems, which are crucial for safe train operations.

Railway officials stated that these actions are part of a sustained effort to create a safe and secure environment for passengers and to ensure uninterrupted train services across the division. Regular patrolling, increased surveillance, and coordinated enforcement drives have been undertaken to deter offenders and raise awareness about the serious consequences of violating railway laws.

The CKP Division reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, protection of railway assets and maintaining smooth and timely train operations. Passengers have also been urged to cooperate with railway authorities, refrain from unlawful activities, and promptly report any suspicious behaviour to help keep the railway network safe and efficient.

The Railway administration has made it clear that such enforcement drives will continue in the future, with zero tolerance towards acts that threaten safety, security, and the integrity of railway operations.
