City police nab bike lifters, 9 stolen bikes recovered

Jamshedpur: Cracking a whip on bike lifters gang the city police today arrested two persons in connection with several cases of bike thefts.

City SP Kartik S said that police have apprehended two persons Sharif Ansari and Babu Ansari during a checking drive near Sakchi roundabout.

On statements made by the arrested persons the police recovered nine stolen bikes from different spots in the city.

The bike lifters Sharif and Babu Ansari are residents of Purulia West Bengal who used to lift two-wheelers and then take the vehicles to their native place.

The lifters used to sell the stolen bikes to their associates in Purulia.

It had become a lucrative business of the gang members that carried out a series of thefts in the city in recent times, the City SP said. The arrested persons were staying at Mango, he said.

It may be mentioned here that unidentified persons had stolen two brand new Yamaha Motor Bikes from a showroom at Bagbera by breaking open the shutters two days ago.

The cost of stolen bikes was estimated at Rs 1.60 Lakhs.
