Jamshedpur, April 16: City police here are confident of arresting notorious gangster Akhilesh Singh very soon. The confidence stems from the arresting of Akhilesh Singh’s mentor Vikram Sharma (45), who was absconding since 2008, by city police from Dehradun in Uttarakhand on Saturday night.
The police managed to nab Sharma after they had stumbled upon a bag containing the documents of properties the gangster had accumulated in various cities, including Dehradun.
A team of police officials led by superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand arrested Sharma from Rajpur Residency, a place where Akhilesh is said to have bought properties in Dehradun. Anand is expected to arrive in steel city with the arrested Sharma late tonight.
Sharma, a resident of Ashiana Enclave at Dimna Road was declared an absconder by the local court and was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000.
Deputy superintendent of
police (headquarters-I) KN Mishra confirmed about the arrest of Sharma from Dehradun .
“It is a major achievement and this will further help us nailing Akhilesh Singh. Sharma who is the mentor of the gangster and was associated with him from 1997 when Akhilesh and Sharma had allegedly murdered a transporter Ashok Sharma at Bistupur on September 17 that year,” said Mihsra.
The DSP (headquarters-I) said Sharma was wanted in connection with several cases of murder, firing and extortion.
” As per our investigation though Sharma was absconding, he had set up business in Dehradun where Akhilesh, also now absconding, would meet him there frequently,” said the DSP (headquarters-I).
Notably, Akhilesh had conspired and executed the murder of transporter Upendra Singh and his associate Amit Rai in November last, leading the police to intensify their attempt to nab the gangster.
“The recovery of the documents related to the gangster’s landed properties from his Shristy Garden apartment in Baridih on March 29 played key role in the arrest of Vikram Sharma. It will definitely lead us to the whereabouts of Akhilesh. We are expecting this as Sharma has all along been in touch with the gangster and he was handling his business and property affairs in Dehradoon,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
