Jamshedpur, Feb. 17: On the lines of New York, Los Angeles and Gurgaon cities, Jamshedpur is also gearing up to host �Raahgiri� (Jam @ Streets) for the first time.
During the event scheduled for February 21, people would enjoy the moment on streets of the city and people from every walk of life can cherish the moment.
The event will be held on the Bistupur main road starting from Main roundabout in front of Bistupur Police Station to light signal in the market. For which the main road would be closed from 6 in the morning till 10 am. The event is being organized with the help of �Raahgiri foundation� of Gurgaon.
The main motive behind the event is to make Jamshedpur accessible for its residents and encourage the use of cycling, walking and lessen the use of car movement for a day.
The event is being held jointly by Tata Steel Urban Services, Jusco and other corporate entities while several social organizations are also lending their support.
The event will start at 7 am and would continue till 10 am where people can enjoy mouthwatering delicacies of Kolkata, Mumbai, Bihar, Jharkhand and South India.
During the event street dance, Dandiya, Aerobic, disability dance, rock band, street painting, Selfi cut out, magic show, Nukkad nattak, Zimmedar Nagrik show and cleanliness awareness programme will be held for which stages will be setup at intervals along the route for people to come together as a community and celebrate life. Entry and parking will be free and citizens can park their vehicles near Bank of Baroda.
�It�s a kind of entertainment for denizens where movement of vehicles will be cut out and citizens will be made aware of cleanliness;, said Rajesh Rajan, chief, corporate communication, Jusco.
A food court will be put up near bank of Baroda in Bistupur where street food, juice, dosas, biryani and others will be sold.
In sports- Cycling, roller skating, yoga, Basketball, Jumba, golf and other events will be held.
Raahgiri Day is India�s first sustained car-free citizen initiative that began in Gurgaon on Nov 17, 2013.
The movement was conceived and is trademarked with the Raahgiri Foundation, consisting of local inhabitants from five organizations � EMBARQ India, I Am Gurgaon, Pedalyatri, Heritage School Gurgaon, Duplays Gurgaon.
