CII working to skill 500 million people by 2022

Ranchi, Nov. 22: Industry Partnership is key to skill development said, S K Rahate Principal Secretary Labour Employment & Training at CII Skill Jharkhand Conclave.

Rahate retaliated that Industry should come forward and participate in ITI adoption and take advantage of the Apprenticeship Act of GoI.

He further mentioned that students who are not a part of the formal education system, and are involved in the vocational training system , should be adopted industry. He further requested CII to create a Tracking Mechanism for number of youth been trained in Jharkhand from different VTA & Government and private ITI .

He shared that 110 lac youth aged between 18 to 25 yrs of age are there in that state and both industry and government should proactively engage in gainful employment.

Rahate also highlighted that Jharkhand Skill Mission has initiated a pilot project in all 24 districts with a target of covering 20 lac youth across different sections in the next 3 years. He requested CII and the industries to be an equal stakeholder in the order to develop the curriculum of vocational trainings.

Avijit Ghosh , Vice Chairman CII Jharkhand & CMD Heavy Engineering Corporation in his welcome address mentioned that The Eleventh Five Year Plan detailed a road-map for skill development in India, and favoured the formation of Skill Development Missions, both at the State and National levels.

To create such an institutional base for skill development in India at the national level, a “Coordinated Action on Skill Development” with three-tier institutional structure consisting of the PM’s National Council on Skill Development, the National Skill Development Coordination Board (NSDCB) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) was created in early 2008.

He also mentioned CII PanIIT has trained and placed more than 5000 youth in Jharkhand. He further mentioned that CII would work closely with Government in the area of Skill Development.

He further mentioned that Confederation of Indian Industry has been working in the sector of skill development in sync with the governments, both Central and State, to meet up the target of skilling 500 million candidates by 2022.CII has set up 12 Sector Skill Councils namely Beauty & Wellness; BFSI ; Furniture & Fitting ; Green Jobs ; Healthcare; Infrastructure Equipment; Logistics; Life Sciences; Painting & Coating; People With Disabilities; Strategic Manufacturing and Tourism & Hospitality.

Sector Skill Councils are Industry led bodies that design national occupational standards and define job roles & qualification packs for respective sectors.

C.V. Sastry , Convener Skill Development Panel CII Jharkhand & Managing Director Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing Co Ltd in his theme address highlighted that industry should be an equal stakeholder in the skill development process. He also mentioned Demographics as well as growth figures portray India’s future as perfectly aligned, however its success is anything but guaranteed.

Skill development is critical for economic growth and social development. The demographic transition of India makes it imperative to ensure employment opportunities for more than 12 million youths entering working age annually.

Chandrakant Raipat , Chairman & Managing Director , Rameshwaram Group concluded that session , and thanked all the dignitaries to be part of the programme .
