Children beat heat with splash in pools

Jamshedpur : With the start of the summer holidays, swimming pools are witnessing a heavy rush. Swimming coaching camps are mushrooming and every pool in the city has something to offer to water enthusiasts. The pools are flooded with swimmers and bathers for whom taking a dip seems to be the best and the only option to beat heat.

The swimming pools at G Town Club, United Club, Beldih Club and JRD Tata sports complex are abuzz with activities these days. In the last fortnight the strength of budding swimmers have increased manifold. Officials of the club informed that they are receiving anxious calls for admission.

�With the temperature boiling I think the best way to beat the heat is to have splash in the pool. Children need something constructive to do during the vacation and there can be no better way than,� said Avinash Kumar, co-coordinator of the summer camp at JRD Tata sports complex.

He said that summer camps serve a dual function. The basic swimming is taught also use this as a talent hunt, where promising children will be picked and promoted for competitive swimming.

Meanwhile another instructor at United Club said that with the start of the summer holidays, pools are witnessing a heavy rush. Swimming coaching camps are mushrooming and every swimming pool in the city has something to offer to enthusiasts.

Harkeerat Kaur a member of United Club said that she loves to chill at the pool during summer holidays. Regular swimming is one the best exercises to remain in shape. A student of Scared Heart Convent, she is a regular in the pool.

Meanwhile JRD Tata sports complex is also hosting a 20-day summer camp. It covers 12 sports disciplines � archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, handball, table tennis, volleyball, roller skating, badminton, cricket, golf and swimming.

�The best part of the summer camp is that we are getting lessons to improve performance in swimming. Since we don�t have water parks like the metro cities we can only opt for swimming in the city pools,� said Rajat Gupta, a former student of DBMS English School.
