Jamshedpur, August 31: The Chandil Junction rail station in Kolhan Region is all set to be included in the list of stations categorized as tourist destinations. Chandil Junction’s credentials for the category emanates from its several historical sites and tourist spots with the list including the Chandil Dam, Dalma Elephant Sanctuary, the historic Budha Baba Shiv Mandir in Joyda, the Chaturmukhi Shiv Mandir in Ichagarh and the Hathikheda Thakur in Patamda. Railway officials have indicated that an announcement to the effect would be made soon.

With Chandil Junction on the threshold of being categorised as a Tourist Destination Station, passenger facilities and development of the rail junction are on the cards and are expected to be ushered in soon. These discussions featured during a meeting of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) with the members of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) in Adra Rail Division.

Railway officials expressed their intention to consider the proposal for extending Barabhum Passenger train service to Chandil Junction after conducting a feasibility study. Additional platform shades will be constructed at Chandil Junction under the Amrit Bharat Yojna. Two lifts will soon be installed at the Chandil station for the convenience of differently-abled individuals. The process of installing a train indication coach in the station is also underway, and a tender for the Coach Indication Board will be issued shortly. Work is in progress to introduce a modern announcement system, which will be installed soon.

In response to issues raised by DRUCC member Divakar Singh, the railway officials provided positive responses. Orders were given to address the demands for better arrangements for the stay of GRP personnel and for maintaining cleanliness. The meeting also led to the issuance of orders to investigate the poor quality construction repair jobs at Chandil and Nimdih stations. The orders issued included that in case of finding discrepancies in repair work execution, the contractor concerned would have to redo the construction.

The process of floating a tender for the construction of an underpass at Nimdih Level Crossing Number 52 is currently underway. However, due to the marshy terrain at Nimdih Yard Level Crossing Number 50, it was not feasible to build an underpass. Adra Rail Division will explore the possibility of constructing an over-bridge instead.
