Chandan, Rukhmani triumph at Noamundi 10K Run

Over 4000 runners participate in Tata Steel Run-a-thon

Noamundi, November 17: More than 4,000 runners from across the country participated in the 5th edition of Noamundi Run-a-thon, the signature event of Tata Steel’s Ore Mines & Quarries (OMQ) division, which kicked-off at Sports Complex here on Sunday on November 17, 2024. This year’s theme for the run was ‘Become a Green Champion’.

DB Sundara Ramam, Vice President (Raw Materials), Tata Steel in the presence of Kuldeep Choudhary, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, West Singhbhum district, Atul Bhatnagar, General Manager, OMQ, Tata Steel and other senior officials of Tata Steel flagged-off the event. The run was categorised as 10 K and 7 K for men and women (15 years and above), 5 K for boys and girls under the age of 16 years, and 2 K for Persons with special abilities. The total prize money given away to the winners in various categories was Rs 5,67,000/- (Rupees Five Lakh Sixty Seven Thousand).

Chandan Bhardwaj from Uttar Pradesh finished first in the 10 K (men) while Rukhmani Sahu from Chhattisgarh finished first in the 10 K (women) categoeries. In categoery 7 K, Surendra Sirka from Jharkhand became first in men and Manali Singha from West Bengal came out first in women. Likeswise, Nikhil Kumar and Shanti Kumari from Jharkhand stood first in 5 K for boys and girls categories respectively. The winners in all the categories – general and local – were awarded with trophies and cash prizes.

Reiterating its commitment for the nature, Tata Steel will plant a sapling for each participant who demonstrated their steely resolve for a healthy and green future by taking part in the event. Noamundi is well-known for its scenic beauty and Tata Steel has actively contributed in restoring the flora and fauna of the region through various initiatives. The Noamundi Iron Ore Mine has taken several initiatives fostering green belt and biodiversity in the region.
