Jamshedpur, Nov 14: After the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Somesh Chandra Soren secured a resounding victory in the Ghatshila by-election by a margin of 38,524 votes, former Chief Minister and BJP leader Champai Soren reacted to his son Babulal Soren’s defeat.

Somesh bagged 1,04,794 votes, while BJP’s Babulal Soren secured 66,270 votes. JLKM’s Ramdas Murmu finished third with 11,542 votes.

Breaking his silence on social media platform X, Champai Soren wrote that the BJP’s fight in Jharkhand is against “Changing demography due to infiltration, religious conversion, and to protect the language, culture, traditions, and existence of the tribal society.”

Acknowledging the hurdles ahead, he stated, “I know the path is quite complex and full of obstacles, but we will not bow down. I thank all supporters of the Ghatshila constituency. Perhaps this time we could not convince the people of our message.”

He added that wins and losses are part of elections, but the survival of the tribal community remains paramount. “Our society, our identity, our tribal ethos must survive—otherwise everything will be lost,” he wrote.

Expressing concern over the shrinking tribal population in districts like Pakur and Sahibganj, he further said, “The day we fail to protect the land, identity, and dignity of tribals and daughters of the soil, we will be truly defeated.”

Champai reaffirmed that the struggle to safeguard the land, religion, and culture of Jharkhand’s tribal and indigenous people will continue, vowing to oppose any injustice or violation of their rights.

“Jai Jharkhand!” he concluded.
