Jamshedpur, April 12: Tatanagar Railway Station and Chakradharpur Railway Division have started the work to make the division paperless.
The paperless trail will start with preparing the balance sheet of the railway ticket centre. Tatanagar Railway Station and Chakradharpur Railway Division have set a target and plan to be paperless within the next one year.
The commercial inspector and booking supervisor of Tatanagar, Rourkela and Chakradharpur of the South-Eastern Railway Zone will be provided training followed by training to commercial workers of Chakradharpur, Ranchi, Kharagpur and Adra division to do online work.
The railway division plans to provide general and reserved railway tickets to passengers through SMS from the counters where IRCTC will start the SMS trial in Rajdhani and Duronto trains from Tatanagar. According to reports, several reservation charts, records and other papers and documents are burnt from time to time.
As and when the paperless plans comes into affect totally the documents and files will remain secured in the hard disks of the computer and the use of paper will decrease. The paperless plan will have a positive effect on the environment as their will be no need to cut down trees.
According to sources, 1200 tonnes of paper is used by the railways daily and with the paperless plan more than Rs 70 lakh will be saved.
For the railway employees the travel pass and pay slip work is also being online and soon the South-Eastern Railway will start Eye-pass system for the employees.
