Chaibasa: In a decisive move against encroachment, the Chakradharpur subdivision administration deployed JCB machines to clear illegally occupied areas in the Gudri Bazaar region, including China Galli, Machhli Patti, Post Office Road, Bata Road and Pawan Chowk. Structures such as awnings and scrap sheets encroaching on public roads were demolished.
Chakradharpur Municipal Council Administrator Rahul Yadav also took action against shopkeepers violating government regulations by selling mutton and chicken in the open, imposing fines of Rs 1,000 per shop, totalling Rs 7,000.
However, the eviction drive sparked strong protests from shopkeepers, who alleged that the administration had acted without issuing prior notice. “We were not given any warning before our shops were demolished. This is unfair when some encroachments are being ignored,” a local vendor complained.
The campaign was led by Circle Officer Suresh Kumar Sinha, Police Station In-Charge Rajiv Ranjan and Administrator Rahul Yadav. Despite opposition, authorities maintained that the drive aimed to ensure public convenience and proper urban planning.
