Chaibasa: 25 year jail term for accused in minor rape case

Chaibasa, May 4: Sukhlal Birua, convicted of raping a minor, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by the court, along with a fine of Rs 20,000. The incident took place on September 2, 2020, in the Manjhari police station area of Chaibasa district.

Following investigations, Chaibasa police apprehended Sukhlal Birua, who was subsequently placed in judicial custody. After gathering scientific evidence, a charge sheet was submitted to the court. On Saturday, May 4, the Additional Sessions Judge-I of Chaibasa Civil Court pronounced the verdict, convicting Sukhlal Birua under Section 04 (2) of the POCSO Act and imposing a fine of Rs 20,000.
