Central conference of Adivasi Kurmi Samaj on Oct 19 � 20

Jamshedpur, Aug 29: A meeting of the Adivasi Kurmi Samaj (AKS) was convened today at Mango Dimna Basti today. The meeting, presided by central committee convener Ajit Prasad Mahto discussed in details all the points pertaining to convening of AKS central conference. It was decided that the conference will be held on October 19 and 20 at Kurmali Bhaki Chari Akhara, Navadih in Patamda. Delegates and observers from Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Assam numbering 5,000 would attend the conference.

Ajit Mahto, explaining the importance of the conference, appealed to all committees of AKS to work for the success of the conference. The meeting was conducted by the East Singhbhum district AKS president Jairam Mahto.

As per discussions in the meeting it was decided that on the first day, October 19, there would be a workshop on Kurmali in which speakers would cast light on the history, language, the arts, tradition and culture, festivals, religion and norms of traditional Adivasis and STs in the Kurmi community.

On the second day of the conference on October 20, authorities of the Samaj would discuss strategies to gain its rights. A new central committee will be formed after getting proposals from representatives of the three states. Cultural performances will be presented during intervals of the proceedings.

The conference will be coordinated by Akus Jharkhand State Committee and arrangements will be undertaken by the East Singhbhum District Committee.

The meeting also decided on disbanding the Saraikela-Kharsawan district committee and all its units for inactiveness and irregularities and decided on forming a new committee. It was also decided that all other district committees of AKS would soon be expanded.
