Catholic Mahila Sangh’s meet focuses on ‘Caring for our common home’

Jamshedpur: The Catholic Mahila Sangh of Jamshedpur Diocese organised a full day workshop as part of its tri- annual meeting at Vikas Bharati Patel Bagan in Sundernagar on Saturday.

The theme this year was �Caring for our common home�. Women participants from the 4 Deanerys of Adra, Chaibasa, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur attended the meeting.

226 women from the remote areas like Charbandia, Tepasai, Omra, Basahatu, Maubhandar, Mosaboni, Chakradarpur also attended the event. Chief Guest for the occasion was Bishop Felix Toppo SJ, who was happy to meet the women at the workshop on an important topic.

The main speaker was Fr. Rayappa Kasi, who is an expert on Ecology / Environment.

This workshop was aimed to help women realize that a healthy relationship with creation is a part of our overall change. We must recognize the errors, faults and failures that have led to the destruction of Mother Earth, natural resources, forests, animals, birds and plants.

During the meeting it was decided to converse energy, to use public transport along with the use cycles or walk, avoid excessive shopping and practice recycling, have a home / church audit on use of electricity, use LED lamps, use less water, have water harvesting facilities, buy original and good quality food fruits and vegetables, don’t waste food, avoid packed food or drinks, live a simple life and do not be a slave to electronics, mobiles, TV, use garbage bins and do not litter on the streets in parks.

On the second day of the AGM they will have a business session where Fr. Valerian Lobo will speak on the topic “Women – Builders of Bridges Within Her Family Church And Society”.

Fr. Rayappa works and lives in a small village in Vellore Diocese. He will be in Jamshedpur till 18th July and will lecture to students in some of the schools in Jamshedpur and meet people too.
