Cath Lab at TMH registers four successful Angiography procedures

Jamshedpur, April 10: The Cardiac Cath Lab at Tata Main Hospital (TMH), Jamshedpur, became functional on April 9, 2015. It has registered four successful Angiography procedures on the same day.

The Cath lab is a collaboration of Hyderabad-based Healthcare Services India Pvt. Ltd and Tata Steel, with an aim to provide enhanced cardiac care to the residents of the Steel City and its peripheral regions.

The four patients underwent Angiography through radical route (wrist). The procedures, besides being uncomplicated, also yielded invaluable information about the future management of the Cath lab. An early angiography, besides regular treatment helps to identify the block and remove it, thereby giving a patient the best chances of survival.

The TMH team was assisted by a specialist’s team from Healthcare Service during all the four procedures.

To begin with, TMH transformed the first floor of JGMH Block into the state-of-the-art facility in cardiac treatment. The Hospital has also installed ‘Philips Allura X-Per 10’ – the most upgraded equipment in cardiac treatment – in the Cath lab. Additionally, nurses and technicians from TMH were sent to Hyderabad for a rigorous training to ensure unhindered services to the patients. Presently, this facility is being manned by a team of 10 doctors and 30 nurses. Cyrus P Mistry, Chairman, Tata Sons, inaugurated the Lab on his visit to Jamshedpur on March 3, 2015.

Plans are on the anvil to begin cardio-thoracic surgery very soon. TMH being located centrally, it gets a significant number of heart attack victims caused by sudden block in a blood vessel supplying the heart muscle.
