Jamshedpur, Aug. 1: Hosts Carmel Junior College and Kerala Public School (KPS), Kadma were crowned the winner of the 5th edition of the Carmel Interschool team Chess tournament. Carmel Junior College hosted the three-day event.
Team Carmel with 35.5 points after the round robin basis i.e. 9 rounds was the table topper in the senior category. Loyola School and Mitilal Nehru Public School with 26 and 22 points respectively bagged the second and third place.
In the junior category Kerala Public School (KPS), Kadma scored 25.5 points to bag the top position followed by Sacred Heart Convent School with 25 and Carmel Junior College scored 23 points.
As many as 11 city schools- J.H Tarapore School, Tarapore Agrico, Carmel Junior College, Loyola School, Kerala Public School Kadma, Motilal Nehru Public School, Mount Litera Zee School, Sacred Heart Convent School, D.A.V NIT, DBMS English School and AIWC – took part in the tournament.
Chief Guest for the occasion was Raj Kumar Singh, district education officer who along with Pritam Singh, CEO, All Jharkhand Chess Association and Neeraj Mishra, President, Jharkhand Chess Academy handed over the prize to the winners.
M. Lini A.C, Principal, Carmel Junior College along with M.Devashree A.C., Vice Principal of the school gave away the awards to Board Prize Winners (Senior Category).
Pritam Singh, CEO, All Jharkhand Chess Association and Neeraj Mishra, President, Jharkhand Chess Academy handed over the awards to Board Prize Winners (Junior Category).
Carmel Junior College sports co-ordinator Pradip Mukherjee, said, Carmel Junior College continued the lead from the inaugural day and were declare the winners in the senior category after two rounds on Monday, the concluding day. In junior category Loyola were ahead after day 1 but KPS Kadma bounced back and bagged the title.
