Jamshedpur, Aug. 12: The English Fest ‘Aurora 2017’, started with a much fun, frolic, and rejuvenated enthusiasm at DAV Public School, Bistupur.
It was a celebration of language and literature which is an inseparable part of our education and communication.
The fest was inaugurated in a traditional manner with the lighting of the holy lamp which dispels darkness and signing of the DAV anthem.
Chief Guest for the occasion was Varsha Chand, President, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur.
In her speech, Varsha Chand congratulated the student and teacher of the school for hosting an innovative event like English Fest where students of 15 renowned school of Jamshedpur participated to harness their literary and communicative skills.
Goutam Mukherjee, an avid reader from IIM, Kolkata showered his blessing on the students and encouraged them to become voracious readers like Jawaharlal Nehru, the architect of modern India and he briefed the students about the educational background and the efforts made by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar while he drafted the Constitution of the greatest democracy of the world.
Shamita Ahuja, Ex-English Teacher of Loyola School, Jamshedpur was also present.
On this occasion, Pragya Singh, the Principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur welcomed the distinguished guest and inspired the students to conquer the unknown areas of literature.
A short video was shown to the participants depicting the importance of English language as a lingua franca. After the inaugural ceremony, the students proceeded to the respective venues for their events.
The events included in Aurora 2017 were- Spell Bee, Meme Mania, Thespian Raga (Drama), Reading Milestones, Jam, Quizzard, Tussle of Titans (Debate), Panorama (Scrabble), Chronicle (Short Stories) and Quintilian (Declamation).
Carmel Junior College won most the events and was crowned the overall winner of the fest. Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS) bagged the runners-up trophy.
The event concluded with the closing ceremony where the winners of various events were awarded prizes and certificates.
