Jamshedpur, Apr 10: The much-awaited Butterfly Festival in Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary has been rescheduled to April 18–20. Originally planned for April 4–6, the event was postponed due to logistical reasons.

Organized to promote environmental education and awareness, the festival will see participation from students across schools and colleges, as well as butterfly researchers and conservationists. The aim is to educate attendees on the life cycle, habitat and food habits of butterflies.

Dalma forest is home to a rich biodiversity, including over 400 species of butterflies and moths. “Dalma is a treasure trove for butterfly lovers. This festival is a rare opportunity to witness biodiversity up close,” said a forest department official.

In 2019, the sanctuary had hosted an international seminar on butterfly and moth conservation in Makulakocha, drawing over 50 experts from India, the UK, Hong Kong, South Korea and Sri Lanka. Researchers at that event confirmed the presence of hundreds of butterfly and moth species.

Students will engage in guided exploration activities during the festival, contributing to butterfly identification and observation. Workshops and sessions will be conducted to deepen understanding of conservation strategies.

Dalma’s flora and fauna provide an ideal environment for such biodiversity to thrive, making it a focal point for regional and international researchers.

The rescheduled dates are expected to attract more participants and create stronger engagement with the public and schools in promoting wildlife conservation.
