Businessman RK Agrawal comes home after a year in jail

Jamshedpur: City-based businessman and candidate of the Rajya Sabha elections of 2012 Raj Kumar Agrawal arrived in his hometown on Wednesday after spending almost a year in Birsa Munda Central Jail in the horse-trading case.

Agrawal was greeted by family members, relatives, friends and members of the city business fraternity at his residence in Circuit House Area on his arrival. Members of various organizations including Jharkhand Pradeshik Gaushala Sangh welcomed him.

Agrawal was released on bail in connection with the horse-trading charges against him leveled during the Rajya Sabha elections this morning. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court. CBI had arrested him on 14th May in 2012.
Leprosy patients having received help from Agrawal too, made a beeline at his residence to greet him.

Agrawal sought the blessings of God and elders in the family on his arrival. His bail plea was earlier rejected by the High Court. He finally got relief at the Apex Court.

A team of Income Tax officials led by the Income Tax Commissioner of Ranchi Vir Birsa Ekka had confiscated cash worth Rs 2.15 crore from a vehicle on the day of voting in the Jharkhand Assembly.

CBI claimed that the cash was meant to be given to several MLAs for voting in favour of Agrawal. The election was later cancelled and a probe was ordered into it.
