Traders question night policing as theft spree continues, cops scan CCTV footage
Jamshedpur: Burglars broke into around 12 shops near Rajasthan Bhawan under Mango police station late on Saturday night, and decamped with cash and valuables worth an estimated Rs 2 lakh. The exact value of the stolen items is yet to be determined as shopkeepers continue to assess their losses.
The theft came to light on Sunday morning when traders opened their shops and found the locks broken. The incident triggered panic in the area, with a large number of shopkeepers gathering at the spot. Many expressed concern over the growing number of thefts and questioned the effectiveness of police patrolling during the night.
Traders alleged that thefts have become a regular occurrence in the locality over the past month, with shops being targeted almost every day. They claimed that despite repeated complaints, the police have failed to arrest those involved or prevent such incidents.
“The police say they conduct regular night patrols, but the fact that thieves could break into 12 shops in one night raises serious questions about the security arrangements,” a trader said.
Shopkeepers also alleged that criminals no longer fear the police and are operating with increasing confidence. They urged the authorities to intensify night patrolling and take immediate measures to prevent further incidents.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and launched an investigation. A forensic assessment of the crime scene is being carried out, while CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being examined to identify the accused and trace their movements.
Officials said efforts are underway to identify those involved and recover the stolen property. They also appealed to local residents and traders to share any information that could help in the investigation.
