Jamshedpur : Despite efforts, cases of thefts and burglaries have become a regular affair in the city.
In yet another incident, burglars decamped with cell-phones and cash from a shop at Sanjay Market in Sakchi on
the wee hours of Tuesday.
The criminals targeted Vijay Electronics, a mobile phone shop Sanjay Market ran away with cell-phones and cash worth Rs 25 lakh. Shop owner Mantu Prasad found the cell phones especially high-end ones, missing when he came to reopen the shop this morning.
Cash amounting 1.5 lakh was also missing. Apart from the City SP Kartik S, deputy superintendent of police (city) KN Chowdhury and officer-incharge of Sakchi police station, Indu Bhushan Ojha rushed to the spot.
A team of forensic experts also visited the shop for taking finger-prints. Though Prasad claimed that over Rs 25 lakh has been burgled from his shop, police have doubts on his claims.
Kartik said they have doubts over the volume of burglary as claimed by the shop-owner.Kartik pointed out despite lack of any evidence of burglary, the police have taken the complaint lodged by the shop-owner seriously and were trying to
assess the exact extent of loss.
Meanwhile, shop-keepers of Sanjay Market downed their shutters in protest against the crime. The police officer, however, pointed out that night patrolling will be intensified from today.
“We are trying our best to control the spurt in petty crimes in the city and we have been successful in arresting quite a few thief involved in the reported cases but I think there is a need to ensure proper night watch.
We are planning to increase the movement of mobile police,” said another official.
