Jamshedpur: On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the Bodhi Society organised a march to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. The march was taken out from Sakchi and drew large devotees of Buddhists and curious onlookers.
The procession started from the Bodhi Society and made its way through the main streets of the city. Participants carried Buddhist flags and symbols, and chanted hymns and mantras as they walked.

The march culminated in a gathering at a local temple, where speeches were given by Buddhist scholars and community leaders. They spoke about the significance of Buddha Purnima and the teachings of the Buddha, emphasizing the need for peace, harmony, and compassion in today’s world.
One participant, a Buddhist monk, said, “This march is a way for us to express our devotion to the Buddha and to spread awareness about Buddhism. We hope that through events like this, more people will be inspired to follow the path of the Buddha and live a life of mindfulness and compassion.”

Overall, the march organised by the Bodhi Society was a colorful and meaningful celebration of Buddha Purnima, bringing together people from different walks of life to honor the legacy of the Buddha.
The temple wore a festive look and areas around the temple are decorated with colourful flags and flowers.
“Special prayers were organised under the Bodhi tree for world peace,” a committee official said. The temple premises and adjoining locality were bedecked with colourful flags and other decorative items. Buddha Purnima is the most sacred day for Buddhists as they take pilgrimage trips to the places associated with the founder of their faith – Lord Buddha. Buddha Purnima falls on a full moon day. This makes the day very auspicious, ‘After the prayers, we will give floral tributes to Lord Buddha, which is a part of our tradition,’ a member of the association said.

Buddha Purnima, which falls on a full moon night in the month of Vaisakha, either in April or May, commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. It is celebrated with traditional spiritual fervour amid religious ceremonies.
