Jamshedpur, April 24: Adityapur police arrested a drugs peddler with 42 grams of brown sugar on Sunday. The accused was identified as Jaan Nisar Akhtar, a resident of Alinagar, Kapali, under Seraikela-Kharsawan, police said.
According to SP, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Anand Prakash, the accused was caught during an anti-crime checking in Adityapur. The cops stopped Akhtar’s car at the barricade on suspicion and found brown sugar hidden inside. Akhtar started running away to evade arrest, but was soon caught after a chase, he said.
The SP said two mobile phones, a broken tab and a car used in selling drugs were recovered from Akhtar’s possession. During interrogation, Akhtar said he was going to Adityapur Muslim Basti to supply brown sugar, he said.
Police said the accused had spilled the beans about the illegal drugs trade flourishing in various pockets of the district. The information would come handy in tightening noose around the drugs racket, said the SP.
The SP appealed to all citizens to inform police about drug peddlers so that they may be sent behind the bars. He said the district police would continue action against drug peddlers in the coming days.
