Jamshedpur, Sept 24: At a time when the stress is on cleanliness through sanitation drives and attempts are being made to clear possible mosquito breeding grounds especially ones favourable for Dengue carriers, Aedes mosquitos, random scenes like the one in Golpahari Basti in Parsudih send shivers down the spine. This garbage ‘dumping’ ground created by unconcerned community residents is not only an eye-sore but also a sad commentary on the people’s sense of social responsibility. The alarm quotient is redoubled when one thinks of the fate of children who study in two schools in the vicinity of this unethically converted garbage dump. The problem is not as much as that of belling the cat but of coaxing awake the moral responsibilities of the authorities and agencies concerned to clear the killer garbage piles and ensure that such open unethical acts are not repeated so as to save ‘local mankind’ from the sword of man-made health disaster.
