Block education officer caught red handed taking bride at Chaibasa

Jamshedpur: A block education extension officer (BEEO) Naval Kishore Singh who was posted at Manjhari block in West Singhbhum was on Friday arrested while taking bribe from two teachers at Chaibasa in the West Singhbhum district headquarters.

A five-member of team of anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Kolhan caught the BEEO near Ghadhi Chowk in Chaibasa town at about 9.30 am red handed.

Deputy superintendent of police, ACB, Amar Pandey said that the operation was conducted after they received complain from the victims. Singh (52) had demanded money from two primary school teachers to pay him Rs 5,000 as bribe at Ghari Chowk.

“The teachers, DevkantGund and Surya Singh Tamsey had already reached the spot at the given time. When Singh arrived and the teachers handed him over the cash, the ACB team which was around caught the BEEO and forced him to put his hand into a glass of water.

As the bundle of currency notes of rupees 100 denominations that the teachers paid the accused was smeared with chemical, the water in the glass turned red. Soon the ACB team took the BEEO into custody,” narrated Pandey.

A BEEO is assigned to look after various affairs of the primary level schools, including the matters related to the teachers’ attendance, payment of stipend to the students, mid-meal and also entry of teachers’ service book.

The DSP (ACB), Pandey said during an inspection of a primary school in Manjhari block a month ago, the BEEO had found Tamsey reaching late for his duty.

The accused had informed the teacher for taking action for reaching late at the school. Similarly, Devkant who was posted in another primary school in Manjhari block wanted to get his name included in the service-book, but Singh would not include the name giving some pretext or the other.

According to the DSP, as both Devkant and Tamsey had been meeting the BEEO for getting their problem solved, the BEEO had demanded Rs 5,000 from them. He had demanded Rs 4,000 from Tamsey and Rs 1,000 from Devkant.

“Shocked with the behaviorDevkant and Tamsey were extremely upset. They visited ACB’s Kolhan bureau in Chaibasa.

Tamsey had lodged the complaint against the BEEO, leading the ACB to hand them over chemical-smeared bundle of notes for paying the accused. Thus, the BEEO was caught red-handed while taking the bribe,” said the DSP.
