Jamshedpur, March 19: At midday in Jamshedpur today the sky turned black as midnight. Dark clouds engulfed the city but being a Sunday there was no crowd and chaos on roads during the afternoon.
The unexpected weather affected normal life as the city received light rainfall, ending weeks of dry spell. There is a forecast for moderate showers in the next 72 hours, which can further bring down temperature.
The photos taken from the Sakchi gate of Jubilee park shows traffic moving along a busy DC office Road on Sunday afternoon. As dark clouds moved over the city, the entire area is plunged into darkness – forcing motorists to turn on their lights as they navigate the darkened roads. Black clouds blocked the sun, forcing the authorities to turn on streetlight, offices to blaze with fluorescent lights and cars to drive with their headlights on.
The unusual weather was surprising for people as the winter has already retreat from the state.
“It was scary for 15 minutes. The sun was blocked by dark clouds, leading to chaos but being a Sunday there was not much of a traffic and the situation turned normal after 15 minutes,” said Anand Gupta, a businessman.
Overcast sky and sporadic showers at different pockets of the region pushed the temperature further down.
The city cooled down with sudden drizzle which made the weather pleasant.
Being a Sunday, people, in large numbers, ventured outdoors enjoying the breezy weather while some youngsters preferred to get drenched in the drizzle.
Meanwhile, in Ranchi, where the third test match between India and Australia in progress, flood lights were lit up in JSCA International Stadium due to the overcast conditions in the morning. As the clouds got darker flood lights were switched on in the post lunch session.
The weathermen at Skymet, predicted some short spells of showers but for the capacity crowd at the stadium near about 20,000 in attendance, the play continued without interruption.
