Jamshedpur: After its crushing defeat in the Jharkhand assembly elections, the BJP’s national leadership has begun to assess the reasons behind its poor performance. National Organization General Secretary BL Santosh has requested a detailed report from the election in-charges, including Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Organization In-charge Laxmikant Bajpayee. The state BJP will also submit its findings to the central leadership. In the coming weeks, a crucial meeting will be held on December 3, where all Jharkhand BJP leaders have been called to Delhi. This meeting will focus on analyzing the reasons for the party’s disappointing results and reviewing the responsibilities of key leaders during the election.
Ahead of the Delhi meeting, Laxmikant Bajpayee and other senior state BJP officials will convene on November 30 to deliberate on the party’s performance, including an evaluation of both winning and losing candidates. The discussions will focus on how the party’s organizational strategies and candidate selections may have contributed to the defeat. During this meeting, district presidents and election in-charges will play a pivotal role in analyzing the party’s overall performance across the state.
The defeat has led to speculation about significant organizational changes within the BJP. Sources suggest that both the state president and the Organization General Secretary could be replaced in a bid to rejuvenate the party’s leadership. Currently, Karmveer Singh serves as the Organization General Secretary in Jharkhand, and there were already discussions during the Lok Sabha elections about appointing a co-organization minister to assist him. There are indications that, with the onset of the new year, the BJP might appoint new leadership at the state level.
Babulal Marandi, who successfully won the assembly elections, is likely to be given more significant responsibilities, potentially leading the state BJP. The central leadership is considering bringing in a fresh face for the Organization General Secretary role, possibly from the OBC or general category, to strengthen the party’s outreach. Interestingly, it is suggested that the new appointee could be a leader who, despite losing the election, possesses the ability to serve as a strong opposition figure. The party is expected to explore new strategies to ensure better coordination and greater effectiveness in its future campaigns.
