Jamshedpur: Demanding adequate power supply for Mango residents, Bharatiya Janata Party activists and supporters led by senior party leaders Saryu Rai and Raghuvar Das took out a torchlight procession from Gandhi Maidan at Mango to Dimna Road on Wednesday and threatened to launch a massive agitation programme in case the problem was not solved soon.
Accusing the state government of failure to address the power crisis efficiently, former MLA of Jamshedpur West Saryu Rai said the population of more than 2 lakh residing in Mango was reeling under acute power crisis for a long time. Most of the localities are living in darkness as a result of loadshedding and frequent power cuts, he said.
It is dismaying to know that the state government has done nothing to provide relief to the people of Mango and other parts of the city. The residents are helpless as there is no power round the clock. The situation gets worse in the summer season when the problem of load-shedding worsens. This is why we have taken to the street to demand a permanent solution to the problem which has long persisted and tormented the people, said Roy.
The MLA of Jamshedpur East Raghuvar Das said the state government led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren had miserably failed to resolve the power crisis. He said the government should do away with its faulty policy decisions on power and improve the situation in the larger interest of the people.
The BJP leaders said they will continue agitation till the power problem is solved once and for all. They said the district administration had received numerous appeals by the people to improve the power problem. But so far all measures taken by the administration have failed to provide the required solution to the people.
BJP leaders had announced the torchlight procession plan earlier. As a result of the agitation organized in the evening, the traffic went haywire for several hours. It returned to normalcy after several hours.
