BJP members burn Subodh Kant effigy for commenting on Adivasis

Jamshedpur: District Bharatiya Janata Party leaders here on Wednesday criticized senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay for allegedly saying that the people of Jharkhand were civilized by Christian missionaries.

Accusing Sahay of denigrating the Adivasis of Jharkhand, the BJP leaders and activists burnt an effigy of the senior Congress leader at the Sakchi roundabout.

Addressing party members, district BJP president Dinesh Kumar said that Sahay had hurt the sentiments of the people of Jharkhand.

He also said that had the missionaries not come here, the people of Jharkhand would still be living like Adam and Eve. This is objectionable and seriously damaging a statement about the Adivasis of the state, said Kumar.

A large number of party workers were present on the occasion. They included Chandrashekhar Mishra, Vinod Singh, Rajan Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Pawan Agrawal, Sanjeev Kumar, Anil Modi, Rajpati Devi, Shikha Rai Choudhary, Rita Mishra and Bhupinder Singh.
