BJP Leader Welcomes Maharashtra Govt’s Move to Consult Community on Hazur Sahib Bill

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur-based BJP Sikh leader Satbir Singh Somu has welcomed the Maharashtra government’s decision to hold consultations with the Sikh community before introducing the proposed Hazur Sahib Bill, 2026, in the State Legislative Assembly.

Expressing gratitude to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Somu said the decision reflects the government’s respect for the religious sentiments of Sikhs across India and abroad. He described the move as a positive step towards ensuring that all stakeholders are heard before introducing any legislation concerning Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib.

According to the announcement made by the Maharashtra government, a special committee will be constituted to consult Sikh scholars, religious bodies, community organizations, and other stakeholders. The proposed bill will be tabled in the Assembly only after these consultations are completed and expert opinions are integrated.

Somu noted that such a consultative approach would maintain transparency while fully respecting the traditions and sentiments associated with one of Sikhism’s most revered Takhts.

“Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib holds immense religious importance in Sikhism,” Somu stated. “Any decision regarding its management should be made only after meaningful dialogue with the Sikh community.”

He added that involving Sikh scholars and organizations in the consultation process will ensure that the legislation accurately reflects the community’s aspirations and concerns.

He added that the decision demonstrates the party’s commitment to respecting the dignity, traditions, and rights of the Sikh Panth while resolving institutional issues through constructive dialogue and consensus.
