BJP launches mega membership drive in Seraikela with fanfare

Saraikela, July 6: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched its mega membership drive today amid great fanfare. Ichagarh legislator Sadhu Charan Mahto, party�s district in-charge Ashoke Shadangi, Adityapur Mayor Binod Srivastav, district president Uday Singhdev, Nagar Panchayat president Minakshi Pattanayak, Shailendra Singh and Ganesh Mahali jointly launched the mega membership drive at Saraikela.

BJP district president Uday Singhdev speaking on the occasion said that there could be no better day to start the campaign than on the 119^th birth anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. He said, �Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee fought for his principle of one country, one law, one Constitution for which he resigned from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru�s cabinet and went to Kashmir where he breathed his last. It is indeed a matter of pride for us to commence our mega membership drive on this icon�s birth anniversary. Our district has been given a target of enrolling 1.30 lakh members and our energetic members will definitely exceed the target.�

Legislator Sadhu Charan Mahto stated that that the membership drive should be taken as a mission and claimed that he would enroll one lakh members in the Ichagarh Vidhan Sabha constituency alone. He urged all party executives and office bearers to complete the target of membership enrollment within July so that they could get to work on planning for the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections.

BJP district in-charge Ashoke Shadangi said that all party members should read the life and work of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. He informed, �Dr Mukherjee became the youngest Vice Chancellor of Kolkata (then Calcutta) University. While being a minister in the Jawaharlal Nehru cabinet he resigned because of certain wrong policies taken by the government and then opposed those policies. Therefore, launching our mega membership drive on the occasion of this great person�s birth anniversary is a matter of pride for us. We are the largest party in the world and to continue growing in strength is a necessity. All party executives will work in their own blocks and give it their all to enroll new members.�

Shailendra Singh said that the membership drive was being launched nationally by the Prime Minister and to ensure success was the responsibility of every member. Party�s district general secretary Ganesh Mahali said, �We must reach out to the last man in the rural areas during our mega membership campaign because until we have a big rural base the party will not be as strong as we expect it to be.�

At the commencement, all members paid floral tributes before a portrait of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Those present on the occasion included former legislators Mangal Singh Soy and Anantram Tudu, Director of Cooperative Bank Basko Besra, Pradip Singhdev, Pankaj Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Rajesh Nanda, Badrinath Daroga, Hare Krishna Pradhan, Dr Manoj Kumar, district president of BJP women�s wing Manju Bodra, Lal Singh Soy, Sushil Shadangi, Manoj Tiwary, Ishwar Mahto, Bhimsen Mandal, Ramesh Mahto, Kavita Pariksha, Rita Dubey, Monty Sengupta, Biju Dey, Shyam Babu and Chhotu Paswan.
