Ranchi, August 31: BJP state president and former chief minister Babulal Marandi criticized the Hemant Soren led government over the death of at least five candidates during physical endurance test for the recruitment of excise constables across the state.

“Notification for excise constable recruitment was issued on August 8, the admit card was given on August 14 and the race for physical efficiency test was started from August 22. In such a situation, how will the candidates prepare for the race in just 15 days? Six unemployed youths of the state due to government negligence which organizing the race in humid weather conditions,” alleged Babulal Marandi.

He further alleged that the government has neither made arrangements for drinking water, nor toilets, nor is there any arrangement for women to breastfeed small children at the recruitment centers.

He asked the government to conduct a judicial inquiry into the death of 6 unemployed youths and provide proper compensation and government jobs to the dependents of the deceased youths.

Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri said that the recruitment process of the Excise Department has been going on for the last few days. In which students have to complete a 10 km race in 1 hour and several candidates have died while several others have fallen ill.

“The state government could not fulfill the promise of jobs in 5 years and when the anger of the youth was seen on the streets and the pressure of the opposition increased, then the process of recruitment of Excise constable was started in a hurry,” said Bauri.
