Ranchi, Oct 31: A heartfelt condolence meeting was held at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, on Friday, 31st October, to pay tribute to former Vice-Chancellor and Director Prof. (Dr.) H. C. Pandey. Students, faculty members, staff and alumni gathered to remember the visionary academician and compassionate mentor who dedicated his life to the institution.
Addressing the gathering, current Vice-Chancellor Prof. Indranil Manna said, “Prof. Pandey was not just an administrator but an architect of BIT’s great legacy. His humility, foresight and deep connection with every member of the BIT family made him an extraordinary leader. His legacy will continue to inspire generations.”
Prof. Pandey joined BIT in 1964 and served for over five decades. He became Director in 1972 and played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s direction for nearly 46 years. Under his leadership, in 1986, BIT was granted the status of a Deemed-to-be University, earning national and global recognition.
Registrar Sudip Das described him as “a true source of inspiration” for everyone. Prof. Pandey initiated several landmark ventures, including S.I.R.T., D.O. and BIT-STEP and was instrumental in setting up BIT centers across India and abroad. His death, the faculty said, “has left a void that will be felt for a long time.”
