Binod Swansi of TAA wins gold in national recurve championship

Jamshedpur, Feb. 15: Hitting the bull�s eye, Jharkhand�s Binod Swansi won national recurve championship by bringing home the gold in the Olympic round for boys at the 38th Junior National Archery Championship at JRD Tata Sports Complex today.

The 20- year-old cadet of Tata Archery Academy (TAA) left behind Sumit Kumar of Uttar Pradesh and state-mate Indrachand Swami to pocket the yellow metal. Binod Swansi also won the gold medal in 70 plus 70 metres boys� category, while Ankita Bhakat of Jharkhand won the gold in the girls� category.

Bengal�s Suparna Singh won the title in the Olympic round for girls, while Jharkhand�s Prachi Singh settled for the silver. Punjab�s Simranjeet Kaur bagged a bronze.

Jharkhand won the team gold in the girls� section through the efforts of Prachi Singh, Ankita Bhakat Vidya Kumari and Archana Sharma, tripping the Maharashtra quartet of Swati Nagarkar, Bhagyashree Kolte, Purva Palliwal and Unnati Raut.

Baria Pramila, Rathva Bhavisha, Rathva Payal and Baranda Dhar from Gujarat took the bronze.

The Jharkhand team won the bronze in the boys� category as Binod Swansi, Indrachand Swami, M Prasanna Kumar and Prakash Pan finished behind Uttarakhand�s Yashdev Kumar, Akhil Choudhary, Kanak Vaidwan and Jitender Kumar (gold) and silver medallists Atul Verma, Nishant Kumawat, L Henthoiba Singh and Sukhchain Singh from Services Sports Control Board.
