Jamshedpur, Jan 6: The third wave of Coronavirus in Jamshedpur is setting new records every day. According to the latest report of the East Singhbhum health department, 722 new corona cases have been reported on Thursday, January 6 and two people have lost their lives.
45 MBBS students of MGM Medical College, 22 students of XLRI, more than 30 doctors and two dozen health workers have also tested positive for the virus.
East Singhbhum’s death toll went up to 1067 after 59-year-old man resident of Airbase Colony, Kadma and 60-year-old woman of Jawaharnagar, Mango succumbed to the disease.
On Thursday, 722 cases were reported positive taking the total active cases in the city to 2251.
12 cases has been reported from Bagbera, 1 each from Baharagora, Dumaria and Patamda, 41 each from Baridih and Sakchi, 11 from Birsanagar, 75 from Bistupur, 2 from Burmamines, 8 each from Chakulia and Sidhgora, 29 from Ghatsila, 46 from Golmuri, 39 from Jugsalai, 61 from Kadma, 67 from Mango, 16 from Musabani, 36 from Parsudih, 7 from Potka, 3 from Sitaramdera, 51 from Sonari, 4 from Sundernagar, 70 from Telco and 92 from different areas of city.
New infections recorded on January 6 are the highest single-day surge in the Steel City during the third wave.
With sudden rise in cases, health department is on its toes and started screening of patients.
The positivity rate rose to 2.68 per cent in Jamshedpur.
The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 54627 and the death count is now 1067, according to the latest health bulletin.
The new cases came out of the 10,955 tests conducted on Thursday.
The best efforts of the state government and district administration will not pay dividends until and unless people themselves realize that the third wave is already knocking down human wickets and it is high time to take a defensive stance to avoid further blows.
There are 2251 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur.
As many 51309 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 69 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. 10,955 COVID-19 tests, including 4096 RT-PCR, 6419 RAT and 440 TueNat were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city.
The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.
East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 766736 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 95.18% while the mortality rate is 1.95 %.
So far in Jamshedpur 2050264 samples have been collected out of which 2041052 have been tested and 1986425 have turned out to be negative.
