Chaibasa: In a defamation case filed by MLA Saryu Roy in 2022, the special MP-MLA court in Chaibasa acquitted Bhupendra Singh, President of the Surya Mandir Committee and Rakesh Singh, former District General Secretary of BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar, giving them the benefit of doubt. The case stemmed from allegations that the two had posted defamatory content on Facebook accusing Roy of corruption related to the construction of his villa.
During the trial, Bhupendra and Rakesh Singh maintained that their Facebook accounts had been hacked and they were not responsible for the defamatory posts. They also provided a police report about the hack. “We have always respected Saryu Roy and the posts were not written by us,” Bhupendra Singh remarked after the court’s ruling.
The court’s decision to acquit the accused was based on the lack of conclusive evidence and the defence presented by their lawyer, Keshav Prasad, who argued that the posts were a result of hacking. Both men expressed relief after the verdict, maintaining their innocence throughout the trial.
