Jamshedpur: The Bhaili Mahila Mandal (BMM) of Sonari organized Gangour Utsav where women seek peace and prosperity for their homes and families. The Gangour worship was performed in traditional Rajasthani customs. The women danced to the music of devotional songs.
BMM secretary Kavita Agrawal observed that the purpose of organizing such festivals was to keep the customs and cultures of Rajasthan alive. Fancy dress, folk dances, traditional costumes and games were organized on a competitive basis and the winners were awarded prizes by BMM president Anita Agrawal. The married women were presented bangles, offered henna and given tokens representing the solemnity of marriage. �Etiquette, values and principles are the crux of our lives. We should not overlook these aspects of our lives,� observed Anita Agrawal.
Married and unmarried women worshipped Lord Shiva (Issar) and Goddess Parvati (Gauri). They sang Gomti songs in chorus on the occasion. Through the songs, the women sought blessings of good luck, peace and happiness in their homes and those of her parents and urged the Divine couple to come back every year and bless their mortal children.
The BMM organizing committee for the Gangour Utsav comprised Anita Agrawal, Kavita Agrawal, Ranjana Kedia, Mira Agrawal, Suman, Priya, Varsha, Komal, Vandana, Sangita, Vimla, Shobha, Bela, Priyanka, Muskan, Nilam, Rashmi, Maina and others.
