Bengal Police File FIR Against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee

New Delhi / Kolkata (IANS): West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh issued a warning on Saturday following the registration of an FIR against Trinamool Congress leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee over alleged aggressive campaign remarks. Ghosh declared that those who indulged in misconduct must face consequences under the altered political landscape.

The “Goon” Language Accusation

West Bengal Police registered the FIR against Abhishek Banerjee in connection with alleged provocative speeches during the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls. The complainant stated that the MP widely circulated inflammatory remarks—including comments targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah—across social media platforms and on his official Facebook page.

Ghosh said that the days of unchecked political intimidation are over.

“All those who committed atrocities, indulged in misconduct, and abused others—including Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee, and their leaders—should now be afraid,” Ghosh said. “Earlier, people did not file complaints, and even the police did not act on them. Now the police are ready, the public is ready, and justice must be delivered. Action will be taken against everyone.”

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain backed Ghosh’s stance, condemning the rhetoric used during the campaign. “The kind of language Abhishek Banerjee used has no place in a democracy. It wasn’t the language of a leader, but rather that of a goon,” Hussain remarked.

The legal action has sharply intensified political friction in West Bengal, triggering a fresh war of words between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress over election rhetoric.

Three Senior IPS Officers Suspended in RG Kar Case

In a separate development, the newly formed West Bengal government has suspended three senior IPS officers, including former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. The suspensions follow deep scrutiny over massive procedural lapses during the investigation into the horrific RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the disciplinary action after a review exposed serious irregularities in how authorities initially handled the crime scene and subsequent probe.
