CSIR-NML hosts EMBT-2025 to drive innovation in sustainable mineral beneficiation
Jamshedpur, July 23: The EMBT-2025 (Emerging Trends in Mineral Beneficiation Technologies) Conference was inaugurated at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, with Sanjiv Kumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Copper Ltd. (HCL), serving as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Singh emphasized the crucial role of mineral beneficiation in India’s journey towards self-reliance and environmental sustainability. He praised CSIR-NML for its remarkable R&D contributions and technological advancements and reaffirmed HCL’s commitment to innovation, digitization, and eco-friendly processing technologies aimed at increasing copper production and reducing environmental impact.

Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML, welcomed delegates and dignitaries, underlining the growing importance of mineral beneficiation in enhancing ore quality, boosting industrial productivity, and ensuring sustainability. He highlighted that recent advances in automation, mineral processing, and green technologies are transforming the sector.
Conference Chairman Dr. Devabrata Mishra, who also heads the Mineral Processing Division at CSIR-NML, shared the vision behind EMBT-2025. He said the event serves as a collaborative platform for researchers, industry experts, and policymakers to exchange ideas on sustainable utilization of ferrous, non-ferrous, industrial, and strategic minerals, with a focus on energy-efficient and zero-waste technologies.

The three-day conference has attracted approximately 150 delegates from 22 top-tier organizations and academic institutions, including Tata Steel, Hindustan Zinc, AMNS India, Coal India, NMDC, SAIL, JSW Steel, various IITs, and CSIR labs. A total of 66 technical papers will be presented across nine parallel sessions, in addition to a dedicated poster session showcasing CSIR-NML’s R&D and technological expertise.

Dr. R.K. Rath, Senior Principal Scientist and Convenor of EMBT-2025, delivered the vote of thanks. Plenary lectures were presented by Subodh Pandey, VP, Technology, Tata Steel; Pardip, Former Scientist at TRDDC; Dr. P.K. Banerjee, Outstanding Scientist, CSIR-CIMFR; and Prof. D.K. Singh of IIT-ISM Dhanbad. Nine keynote lectures are scheduled during the event.
