Beldih Club AITA Tennis Championship Jamshedpur: Shounak, Aleena win singles titles

Jamshedpur, April 14:  Top seeded Shounak Chatterjee of Bengal was stretched to the wires in the finals of the Boys Singles Under 18 category at the just concluded Beldih Club All India National Ranking Junior Tennis Championship Series 2023, held at the sand clay courts of the Beldih Club.

In the finals played on Friday, Chatterjee played a marathon against state-mate Md Adil that lasted for over 3 hours, to eventually claim the title. Chatterjee won by a long 6-2,6-7(6),6-1.

The finals of the Girls Singles Under 18 event though witnessed a one-sided affair as Bengal’s Aleena Farid took almost no time to outclass Bihar’s Prashansa Shrivastava by a clean 6-0,6-2.

Earlier on Thursday, unseeded duo of Md Adil and Chiradeep Mazumdar claimed the Boys Doubles Under 18 title.

The duo of Md Adil and Chiradeep Mazumder from West Bengal played a tight opening set as the set progressed to a tie-breaker. In the breaker, the unseeded boys proved to be lucky as they pocketed the set by a close 7-6(4). In the second, it was more of a one-sided affair as Adil and Chiradeep walked away with the match by a straight 7-6(4),6-3 against Shounak Chatterjee & Siddhant Mohapatra.

In the Girls Doubles Under 18 category, second seeded Aleena Farid and Kinza Shaikh of West Bengal claimed the title as they won the final match against top seeded Prashansa Shrivasta of Bihar and Saumya Chatterjee of West Bengal by a straight 6-1,6-4.

The trophies were handed over to the players by Amitava Bakshi, Hony. Secretary, Beldih Club, in the presence of Captain Neeraj Madan, Sports Committee Member, Beldih Club.
