Begusarai Gang-Rape: Bihar Police Suspend SHO, Form SIT to Hunt Accused

Patna (IANS): Bihar Police on Friday suspended Chakia Station House Officer (SHO) Rajiv Ranjan for gross negligence in the horrific gang-rape and brutalization of a woman in Begusarai district—a crime echoing the details of the 2012 Nirbhaya case.

The incident occurred on the night of June 11 in the Chakia police station area. The case triggered national outrage after reports surfaced that doctors recovered a bullet cartridge, a piece of wood, and a stone from the victim’s private parts during medical treatment.

Begusarai Range DIG, Shailesh Kumar Sinha, visited the victim at Sadar Hospital on Friday and met her family members to gather firsthand details of the crime.

The DIG also reviewed the case’s progress with local police officials and demanded a full account of their actions so far. He later consulted the medical team, including the Civil Surgeon, to get a detailed report on the victim’s examination and treatment.

Following the review, authorities suspended Chakia SHO, Rajiv Ranjan. The DIG noted that preliminary findings revealed severe negligence in the initial handling of the case, prompting immediate departmental action against the officer.

Police have now registered an FIR and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to identify and track down the perpetrators. Senior officers, including the DIG and district police officials, also inspected the crime scene as part of gathering evidence.

Officials confirmed that a newly constituted Medical Board has conducted a fresh examination of the victim. Investigators are awaiting the final report, which will heavily dictate their next legal steps.

The police have assured the public that they will arrest all individuals involved and bring them to justice. Teams are currently examining forensic evidence, recording statements, and verifying every angle of the case. Authorities emphasized that they will take further legal and departmental action based on the upcoming medical and SIT reports.

The sheer brutality of the case has sparked massive public anger and cast a harsh spotlight on how Bihar authorities handle crimes against women. Senior officials are now closely monitoring every development.

According to police sources, the attack took place on the night of June 11 when the 30-year-old victim stepped outside her home to use the toilet. Five men intercepted her, forcibly dragged her to a secluded spot, tied her hands and legs with her own clothes, and gang-raped her. In an act of extreme depravity, the attackers then inserted a bullet, a wooden object, and a stone into her private parts.

The victim’s family has slammed the local police, accusing them of turning them away and refusing to help when they first tried to lodge a complaint.
