Jamshedpur: Health Minister Banna Gupta inspected various ghats at Kadma in view of Chhath. He was accompanied by special officers of two civic bodies — Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC).
After completing the inspection Gupta said that most of the ghats need proper cleanliness and facelift. “I have instructed the special officers of the urban civic bodies to ensure cleanliness of the ghats. The local administration must take up immediate steps of cleaning and levelling of ghats in order to make them ready for Chhath,” said the Minister.
During the inspection, the minister also asked the local and the elderly people to give their requirements within 48-hours so that necessary action could be initiated to redress their problems.
“The administration should also ensure proper facilities along the ghats. Devotees would offer “Araghya“ to the setting sun at various ghats in Mango, Adityapur, Baghbera, Sidghora. The administration should deploy police personnel and emergency services like ambulances at riverbanks,” noted the Minister.
Meanwhile, several social and cultural organisations of the city have decided to set up canopies near ghats to supply essential commodities to the devotees.
The minister said that apart from the two urban bodies Tata Steel subsidiary would also carry out cleanliness jobs of the ghats. He said that the East Singhbhum district administration should hold a meeting to chalk out a detailed plan for the festival.
There are several major ghats – including Mango, Kapali, Dumuhani, Pandey, Bhuiyandih, Sati, Substation, Bodhanwala and Baroda ghat – in and around the city that draw thousands of devotees during Chhath. This year the festival will be celebrated in the third week of November.
During the inspection, the minister also suggested river front development and an urban haat project at Shastrinagar in Kadma.
There are nearly 18 major ghats in and around the city which witnesses huge turnout of devotees during the evening offerings and morning offerings.
In the light of devotees traditionally offering prayers to the Sun god dipping into the river the administration has been asked to identify safe places (Chhat ghats) for offering prayers at the two rivers. Besides, the administration has been asked to depute divers and life jackets in adequate strength at Chhat ghats.
