Jamshedpur: District BJP president Dinesh Kumar termed the ongoing strike by auto-rickshaw drivers of the city as a pre-election gimmick of Congress leader Banna Gupta. He said Gupta was indulging in vote bank politics with an eye on 2019 elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the BJP president said the Congress leader and auto-rickshaw union leaders were opposing the road safety campaign of the district administration with the view to satisfy only a certain class of people. He said driving school vehicles without licence, permit and proper documents could not be allowed by the district administration.
Kumar said the auto-rickshaw drivers should have requested the transport department to organize special camps for issuing them licence and other documents. Politicizing the whole affair at the expense of safety and convenience of school children is totally uncalled for, he said.
Kumar said Gupta and other auto-rickshaw union leaders were afraid that a resolution of problems being faced by the auto drivers could ruin their political plans.
