Session on Digital Toxicity Held at D.B.M.S. College of Education
Jamshedpur, Nov 12: On the occasion of National Education Day, the Rotaract Club of D.B.M.S. College of Education organized a special awareness session on the topic “Understanding Digital Toxicity (Dopamine)”. The session was conducted by Dr. Rajeev Sharan, Head of the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology, Tata Motors Hospital.
Dr. Sharan explained how excessive use of digital devices impacts the brain’s dopamine system, leading to reduced attention span, anxiety, and dependence on instant gratification. He also shared practical tips for managing screen time and developing healthy digital habits among students and teachers.
The interactive session saw enthusiastic participation from both faculty members and students, who discussed the importance of mental health in the digital age. Dr. Sharan encouraged participants to practice pranayama, meditation, and spending time in nature to reduce digital dependency. He advised parents to motivate children to play outdoors instead of using mobile phones in the evening.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Monika Uppal, followed by the introduction of the guest speaker by Dr. Sujata Mitra, a member of the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West. Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita expressed her gratitude to Dr. Sharan for his valuable insights.
Anjali Ganesan, Moderator of the Rotaract Club, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to organizing meaningful educational programs that promote holistic development and well-being among students.
