Seraikela, July 2: Thousands of devotees from across Seraikela witnessed Lord Jagannath’s ‘Bahuda Yatra’ – the return car festival which was held amid tight security on Monday. Lord Jagannath will arrive at Sri Jagannath temple on Tuesday.
According to mythology, the three deities – Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister Devi Subhadra wrap up their annual nine-day sojourn to Temple, their birth place and return to Sreemandir or Sri Jagannath temple riding their three majestic wooden chariots.
During the Bahuda Yatra people in large numbers enjoyed the concluding day of Jagannath fair. The Bahuda Yatra commenced from Mousibari Mandir in Seraikela and on the first day it halted for overnight stay at Kaluram Chowk were a bhajan evening was oragnised by the Kaluram trust. The Bahuda Yatra will again commence on Tuesday and will conclude at Lord Jagannath mandir.
Several special rituals were performed before the deities were taken out of the temple and placed on the three colourfully decorated chariots for the return journey amid chants of ‘Jai Jagannath’ and ‘Hari Bol’.
Devotees on the occasion prayed to the rain gods for a good monsoon season in the district and pray for blessings on their farms.
