Jamshedpur, Feb. 21: Factionalism is growing inside the East Singhbhum District Congress Committee with the Kolhan level Chintan shivir (camp) just a day away.
The district congress is currently divided into two groups, one lead by Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Balmuchu, while East Singhbhum district president Vijay Khan in heading the other.
Banna Gupta, former MLA and minister, who was seen with Vijay Khan, has shifted his base to Balmuchu’s side since last week. Senior leader Bagun Sumbrai, Pradeep Balmuchu, Banna Gupta, Ravindra Jha will be organizing the Kolhan level Chintan shivir at the Michael John Auditorium here on February 23.
Addressing a pre-event press conference at Nirmal Guest House on Sunday, Pradeep Balmuchu said, “All the senior Congress leaders of Jharkhand will be present at the camp with the aim to strengthen the party base in the state and prepare for the 2019 Assembly elections.
We hope to get the maximum seats to the party from Kolhan in the 2019 Assembly election and form the next government in the state.” He added, “We will move to Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singhbhum districts next and also hold similar meeting at the grassroots level.”
When asked about the district president organizing another program on the same day, Rajya Sabha MP said, “They (Vijay Khan group) should cancel their event in favor of the party.”
Meanwhile, Banna Gupta said, “The forthcoming sammelan will focus on strengthening the party’s base in Jharkhand. There is a conspiracy to divide India and people of the country are living with fear under the BJP rule. However, Congressmen will not keep quiet. In these hard times role of Congress becomes much more important than just playing politics,” Gupta said.
He added, “The Congress party should stand together and crush BJP so that people can live freely.” When asked about another event by the district congress on February 23, Gupta said they will be protesting and submitting a memorandum to DC against the state BJP government and also will plan to up the ante against the BJP rule.
Senior leader and former Lok Sabha MP Bagun Sumbrai, said, “If the Congress has to remain in the light and improve its performance in the next election then current East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan district presidents must be removed from their posts at the earliest.
The party has failed in all fronts in the 2014 Assembly elections with the Kolhan region performing the worst. There is not a single party MLA from the region.”
Meanwhile, Balmuchu pointed out that JMM is the main opposition party in the state, but it has also weakened and failed to entourage the government.
Banna Gupta said, “We are all together and not against the district president.”
Several other leaders including former district president Ravinddra Jha, Chndrabhan Singh, Awtar Singh, Upendra Sharma and others were present at the press conference.
