Jamshedpur : The students of XLRI School of Business and Human Resources imparted training for self help group (SHG) members operating in the district.
Social Initiative Group for Managerial Assistance (SIGMA), a student society at the B-school organised a capacity building and empowerment programme for SHG women through basic accounting skills.
SIGMA co-ordinated with city based NGO, Kalamandir for the pilot project that took place at XLRI. The project launched in 2010 and have reached the fourth year where students believe that SHG women need some assistance in flourishing their business. Every year, the project gets started during the Joy of Giving Week and continues later.
Topics like importance of basic accounting, savings, health insurance, regular meetings, the reason for taking loans, concept of interest along with bank loans and the linkage with SHGs.
The module for the course has been made in consultation with XLRI faculty members and Nabard initially but this time, the SIGMA volunteers visited the SHGs and asked them what they wanted to learn. Today there were around 20 women and will be another batch of the same number tomorrow.
